DESIGN ACTIVISM | REDEFINING DESIGN IN ART SCHOOLS:: 2010
A Public Redefinition of Graphic Design is a project aimed to create awareness between students, faculty, and staff of the School of Art and Art History (SAAH) of the University of Florida, about the Graphic Design discipline, its activities, characteristics, and research methods to create efficient and effective solutions for everyday problems. The idea is to inform the audience that Graphic Design has a very active role in society, collaborating with other disciplines and incorporating different methods to improve systems and ways of life, rather than being only related to consumerism and advertising.
This campaign consisted on the placement of posters with stickers in different locations of high traffic around the two main buildings of the school, for 10 days. People could see the poster as a contextual space to understand how every sticker with its individual message relates to the rest (a total of 27 stickers were produced to be placed on the posters and distributed in restrooms, boards and other public spaces). The stickers are collectable and color coded.
